India threatens to ban Blackberry – again?

July 1st – India threatens to ban Blackberry

According to Yahoo, RIM got served a 15 day notice on July 1st 2010 to allow India’s government to access their client’s information (such as sent emails, etc.).
There was a lot of chatter online regarding privacy on the tech websites such as Slashdot, but generally the comments on indian news websites were a “follow our rules or get out”.
So July 16th rolled around and…. nothing happened. At least nothing the news/internet picked up. So it seemed that the threat of banning the blackberry in India has gone the way of India’s “$10 computer” (which ended up being never heard from again).

July 28th – India threatens RIM again

Suddenly today, news agencies started reporting that India has threatened another ban, although this time without a definite deadline.
The current revival of this issue seems to be just a case of India getting jealous. Supposedly RIM is setting up a server in China, and India is going “why can’t we get one too?”

Times of India says:

The fresh confrontation comes after reports that RIM was ready to set up a server in China to address Chinese security concerns.
The home ministry has asked the department of telecommunication (DoT) to check the veracity of reports of a server being set up in China and then press the Canadian company to do the same in India.

Did RIM sell out its users already?

Did RIM ALREADY give out its encryption codes (and thereby sell out its customer base worldwide)?

An indian news agency reports “tensions were defused after RIM agreed to provide its encryption code to security agencies” in reference to the first time Blackberry was threatened with a ban years ago.

According to Times of India, RIM has already given out the encryption codes; so the current confrontation is over India complaining that China gets a RIM-server while India didn’t rather than just getting access to your emails.

Implications to blackberry users

Unless Blackberry encryption is region specific, beware that Indian intelligence agencies (known for their corruption) may be eavesdropping on your emails. They may claim it only affects Indian users, but how do they judge that? Someone’s who’s been in India once? Someone who’s received an email from an Indian citizen?

Why might RIM do it?

Why would RIM give away their encryption keys? I want to say that the news article by Times of India got it wrong, that RIM didn’t sell out the rest of the world for a few bucks in India (where the Average Revenue per User is very low already, so it’s literally a few bucks). But if the article is correct, then the only two reasons I can think of would be economical or legal.
Economical: They don’t want to lose out on a “big” economy, population wise, even if profit per user is dead low and dropping
Legal: They don’t want to be seen as discriminating against Indians Apparently they already co-operate with US Intelligence agencies, so to not do so may seem racist. Although US intelligence agencies are held to far stricter accountability standards than Indian ones.

Valentine’s day isn’t only a day to rejoice if you’re in a relationship. It’s an opportunity for you when you’re single too.

Dating Tips to Attract Asian Girls

If you go through this route, you should integrate yourself fully into her social life by making her friends think of you as a good person for her. Thus they will encourage her to hook up with you. Two things to beware of when using this method would be she may feel overly pressured by her social group (contrary to popular belief, her friends asking her daily “are you going to date him?” can actually backfire when dealing with a shy asian girl because of social pressure and how she responds to it).

Method 2 – Anonymous hookup approach

What’s the difference between a good guy and a nice guy?

A GOOD GUY (what we’re about) is someone who is a good person. Instead of trying to be confident, he is OK with who he is. He respects and adores women, and he lets her know this. He isn’t afraid to show her he cares and gives her the freedom to choose.

A NICE GUY (what we laugh at) is someone who pretends to be a good guy. He may open doors, drive girls around, pays for expensive dinners, etc. But he does this from a place of wanting something. He wants to get into her pants, like any other straight guy.

Let’s use a bunch of case scenarios. In each situation, I’ll list what a “nice guy” would try to do, what a “good guy” does, and occasionally what North American society expects.

Situation 1:
Guy sets up meeting with girl at mall. Girl cancels last minute, and the guy is already there.
Nice guy: Either pretends it’s no big deal since “he was in the area anyways” or gets really angry and flips out and hates women.
Society expects: Guy remain calm and understanding, and chalk it up to the unexplainable nature of women.
Good guy: With a sad voice, says “I’m disappointed, I wanted to see you” and then talks to a cute woman passing by in the mall.

Situation 2:
A guy meets a girl at a party. They both seem to get along great and he likes her. They flirt a bit, make plans to meet up the next day, and suddenly the girl says “oh, i can’t stay long tho, i have to go to dinner with my boyfriend tomorrow night”.
Nice guy: Looks shocked, might even get angry. He blames her for “leading him on”, and thinks she’s a tease.
Society expects: Guy to stop flirting with her and find “other fish in the ocean”
Good guy: “I understand… we have enough time.” and doesn’t really react to it. He continues flirting with her, keeping discreet as usual.

Situation 3
Guy and girl both meet at a party. He finds her attractive.
Nice guy: Pretend to want to be friends, while he secretly wants to get into her pants
Society expects: Guy to ask her out on a group activity so she feels comfortable, and maybe transition into a date.
Good guy: Tells her he finds her attractive, without any excuses, and continues the interaction.

Situation 4
Guy and girl working together. He likes her.
Nice guy: Pretend to want to be friends. Might ask another female co-worker for help.
Society expects: Depending on where. Either completely against workplace hookups or for workplace hookups.
Good guy: EITHER like someone else because he’s against workplace hookups, or goes for her if he supports workplace hookups. Either way, he does it himself.
